Jamming 20110929

A little sequence "Blackbird" "Tear's in Heaven" That one little tune C Am by that guy, fingerpicking [20200120: I'm not sure which song I'm referring to here. Initially I thought "Wherever You Will Go," but technically the chords for that are C G Am7 F C. If I meant Am C then perhaps "I Will Follow You Into the Dark."] Jammed I played "Who's Knocking" (a song which I wrote). She played her little sequence. "Romance" (classical piece) The draft for the above note had the datetime 20111013 3:48 PM. But texts indicate it may be 20110929.

LET IT FLOW 20110720 5 to 8 songs

20110720: So it's been a while since I've done this. I've decided to call it "LET IT FLOW." How I used to do it: I'd load up Pandora, let a station play. As a song comes by, I'd look up the guitar tab. Sometime there wouldn't be enough time to find a tab and understand it, but I'd have a print out, so the next time the song comes up, I'd have the tab ready. How I'll do it today: I've since looked for patterns to learn songs, and so it takes a little bit more processing. I'll load up an artist on Last.fm, let the radio start. Pause it on a song that I think I can learn. Look up the tab. Process it a bit. Play the song. If I want, I can look up the song on YouTube and practice it one or two more times if it's worth trying. Today's Radio: Last.fm. Artist: Goo Goo Dolls. Goo Goo Dolls - Here is Gone http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/g/goo_goo_dolls/here_is_gone_ver3_crd.htm The Calling - Wherever You Will Go http:/...

The Eagles - Hotel California (Drums)

I played the following over and over until I played it with little struggle. http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/e/eagles/hotel_california_drum_tab.htm H |x-xx--x-x-xx--x-|x-xx--x-x-xx--x-| S |----o-------o---|----o-------o---| B |o-------o-----o-|o-------o-----o-| I started H+S. Then I tried to do H+B but it was too hard to time so I just tried to do all three. I would often do: H |x-xx--x-x-xx--x-| S |----o-------o---| B |o-------o-------| Or: H |x-xx--x-x-xx--x-| S |----o-------o---| B |o-----o-o-----o-| Or basically I would have to do at least the double or single bass in a row before my mind could mentally switch. But at some point I get into the rhythm and just do it. I really just have to trust myself that I'm doing it, otherwise the moment I try to concentrate on it, I lose it. In the end, it was easiest for me to start the pattern as a double tap and then single and then focus on starting over with the double. So instead of: H |x-xx--x-x-xx--x-|x-xx--x-x...

Eric Hutchingson - Rock and Roll [C3]

20110306: I've practiced a little of this song before, but today I think I got the rhythm down a little better than I did before. I feel like I might even start to remember the chord progression. Let me try to see if I can remember it: Capo on 3. G B7 C A7 Repeats for a while. Three chords in a row: B7 C Am. Followed by D. Twice. Then to the chorus. C G D G. The chorus was a little tricky at first, but the key for me was to feel the music and sing along with soul instead of trying to focus too hard on how I heard Eric Hutchingson playing it. In any case let I=G B7 C A7 II=Bm Am C D III=C G D G IV: Am F C Intro: I Verse I: I He's been... I Lately... II II Chorus(He): III III III III NaNaNa: III III Verse II: I See her... I Reading... The Beatles - Let It Be

20110303: The other day (20110301) Sinan and I were in the drum room and he played Let It Be on his guitar. I improvised on the drum, since I didn't know how the actual drum part. Inspired, I've set out to learn the song on guitar. In the key of C we have C G Am F C G F (C/E Dm C) for the verse and Am G F C C G F (C/E Dm C) for the chorus. I like to remember it in terms of chord numbers: I V vi IV I V IV (I ii I) and vi V IV I and the second part of the verse gets repeated. At least that's what I've tried and it sounds decent. One tab had, instead of (C/E, Dm, C), (E note 4th string, D note 4th string, C) I played the notes to the solo as tabbed here: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/b/beatles/let_it_be_solo_ver2_tab.htm It's fun even though my timing is off, because it just moves along the pentatonic scale. It's getting late, so I'll call it a day. But searching for "Let It Be Solo" in YouTube seems promising. Just watchin...

Eagle-Eye Cherry - Save Tonight

20101222: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/e/eagle_eye_cherry/save_tonight_ver2_tab.htm The song is simply: Am F C G. What takes a little getting used to is the moments to sing. The key is to start certain sentences before the start of the next strum, not the start of the previous strum. It is perhaps easiest to get accustomed to this by starting with the chorus. Chorus lyrics are easy: Save tonight. Fight the break of dawn. Come tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll be gone. Repeat twice. Come and close the curtains, we have enough light, all we need is candle light. Let's drink wine. I'm going away. So let's drink the wine and delay our misery. Third verse: Fire, desire Fourth verse: Ain't easy to say goodbye. 20110302: I've gotten used to playing the rhythm and singing if I look at the lyrics. Now its a matter of memorizing this simple progression and memorizing the lyrics. I suppose the difficulty for me is that most songs I think about, I want to go fro...

John Lennon - Imagine

Played 20091219: Not bad, play slowly and on rhythm. Then work up in speed to the pace of the song. I added lyrics to the tab below; in general, each phrase is sung somewhere around the first and second beat of every two measures, i.e., four measures will have two phrases sung. The tabber uses "&" for Coda and "$" for Segno. Lyrics during the first play at "$" follows (1) and during the second play follows (2). I=[C][F][C][F] II=[F,Am/E][Dm,F][G,C/G][G7] III=[F,G][C,E7][F,G][C,E7] III'=[F,G][C,E7][F,G][C] Where the chords Am/E and C/G are played by holding Am and C but just at the appropriate strings.
