The intro is more easily done on an acoustic guitar where the neck is narrower which allows for use of thumb on the [1] and [3] on the sixth string during the F chord. Or, one could ignore the [0] on the third string and then barre an F chord and use the middle finger which would normally be on the fourth string and hover over the [3] on the sixth string.

20100115:
Got a real capo yesterday, tried it a bid. So now I have three different capos. This one isn't bad, but just barely fits the classical guitar. I'll have to bring it to MD and see how it compares to my other two kinds. The F to C intro is hard, again due to the width of the neck of a classical, but I'm able to play and sing looking at the lyrics. I just have to try and remember the bridge. All the C, C', C'' business is mostly just variation that may or may not be discernible.

The progression from the C to the F when playing the Intro/Verse has always gotten me. Not to mention the fact that plenty of tabs exist with different versions of how the F is done. Most agree on C G Am7. In any case, here I am hacking at it today. The problem, however, is either I need to practice to play the progression until I don't need to think about it, so that I can sing the lines, or skip out on playing the melody and just sing.

In any case, here is the tab I found that sounds best and fairly easy to play. The tabber also makes remarks to suggest this is how The Calling actually plays it. I added lyrics to the tab.

Though, other tabs have C; G; Am7; F, C; and that sounds pretty good. So either mix it in or use it completely when chords are played.

20100916:
I start to memorize the order of when the chords are played and when the melody is played:
The intro and then the verse, with the exception of the F chord is with melody. Then chorus. Then verse plays with the melody until "If a great wave shall fall..." Then I got the bridge down: Am F G Em, Am F G Em. But the lyrics pairs the chords up into [F G], [Em Am], and [F G], leaving the first and last chords by themselves, and the Em playing the role of the F at the end of the verse, i.e., strummed to build tension.
